As a digital media artist, I work with illustration, photography, animation, moving image, graphic design, audio, performance, and programming. Within higher education, I administer and manage digital media centers; teach film and digital art production; and produce media as a digital media specialist.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I explore sketches of consciousness, time, memory, relationships, and identity. My work tends toward experimental montages of personal narratives, autobiographical events, interpersonal relationships, and graphic expressions. These latter expressions emerge from streams of consciousness, which are synthesized from dissipative reveries just below the surface of shared external events of which I am a part. It would not be an exaggeration to suggest that I am obsessed with consciousness, the mysteries of the unknown, human nature, speculative science, fringe thought, and the question of what is real. Capturing, editing, and remixing time allows for an expandable instance to explore the tangible seam between the internal and external worlds and to communicate the ineffable.
When I discovered the films of Harry Smith, Maya Deren, Stan Brakage, Jonas Mekas, and Kenneth Anger, my life changed. A different understanding of narrative structure became evident to me in their styles and subject matter. I wanted to use the moving image like a diary of sensation and reverie. I want to encode my memories, fleeting thoughts, moments and transmit them to others across time.
